Time for the resolution of the problem: 50 minutes. You can consult books and notes. The responses that are not accompanied by the logical development have no value.
Problem 1.
Consider the following multiple reactions:
                                                                       A + B ------ 2·C                         k1,A: 10 L/mol·s
                                                                     A + C ----- D + E                         k2,D: 10-2 L/mol·s
                                                                    B + C -------E + 2·F                       k3,C: 100 L/mol·s
                                                                        B + E ------- C                             k4,E: 1 L/mol·s
The reactions, in liquid phase, are to be carried out in a PFR reactor of 10 dm3 at a temperature of 300K and a pressure of 1 atm. The entering volumetric flow is 1800 mL/min. The molar feed flow rate is 108 mol/h. The feed molar ratio A/B is 4/1.
Determine:
a.       Feed massic flow of A (PMA: 60 g/mol)                                                                  
b.       The concentration of B in the feed (mol/L)                                                                
c.       The net reaction rates of each species                                                                  
d.       The molar or mass balances for the reactor design                                              
e.       Write the POLYMATH program to determine all concentrations and XA. Do not forget initial conditions.
